How to Choose the Best Fitness Coaching App of 2026

The path of a successful coach eventually leads straight into a predictable and frustrating wall.
Because the multi-platform, mode switching practices that work for five or six clients start to crack when you hit a dozen and cannot handle 20, 30, or 40 clients. So, be prepared if programming lives in a spreadsheet, check-ins come by text, form videos land in three different inboxes, payments go through Venmo, and you’re the one who has to send the awkward “hey, just a reminder” message every month. If you grow the way you want to grow, eventually you are going to start shopping for a fitness coaching app.
And that’s when the second problem shows up: they all look the same.
Every app has a workout builder. Every app has messaging. Every app says it will “help you scale.” So how do you actually choose?
This guide is our honest attempt to answer that. Yes, we make one of these apps, and we’ll tell you where TurnKey Coach fits. We’ll also tell you where another app is the better choice, because the wrong software costs clients, not just a monthly fee.
What a Fitness Coaching App Should Actually Do for You
Strip away the marketing and a coaching app has three jobs:
- Deliver the coaching. Get the right program to the right client, let them log what they did, and show you what happened.
- Keep the relationship strong. Feedback, messages, and check-ins that make a remote client feel coached, not just programmed.
- Run the business. Collect payments, onboard new clients, and keep you from drowning in admin as you grow.
Most apps handle the first job well. The real differences show up in the second and third. (If you’re a personal trainer moving online, our guide to personal training software walks through the features that matter most.)
Six Questions to Ask Before You Pick an App
1. Can it program the way you coach?
A strength coach needs sets, reps, load, RPE or RIR, and an easy way to progress them week to week. A conditioning coach needs time and distance. A bodybuilding coach needs supersets and giant sets. During your free trial, build one real week of a real client’s program. If it feels like you’re fighting the app, you’ll be fighting it forever.
2. How do you give feedback?
This is the one most coaches underrate. Online, your feedback is the product. Can you comment on a specific set? Leave a voice note? Record your screen while you watch a client’s lift and draw on it? The richer the feedback, the more your clients feel coached, and the longer they stay. (We dig into this in our piece on why video feedback is transforming online coaching.)
3. Where does your attention go each morning?
At 30+ clients, you can’t click through every profile to see who trained, who missed, and who needs a new block. Look for one place that surfaces what needs you today.
4. How do you get paid, and what does it cost?
Some apps include payments. Some charge a monthly add-on to unlock them. Some take a cut of each sale on top of the card processor’s fee. Read the fine print, because a few percent of your revenue is often more than the subscription itself. And if you’re still working out what to charge in the first place, start with our guide on how to price online coaching.
5. What happens to your bill as you grow?
Almost every app prices by client count. That’s fair, but check what happens at the edges. Does going from 15 to 16 clients jump you to a new tier? Are the features you’ll need at 40 clients (extra coaches, integrations, automations) included or sold separately?
6. Will your clients actually use it?
Download the client app yourself. Log a workout. Upload a video. If it’s clunky for you, it will be clunky for a 52-year-old client who just wants to know what to lift today.
The Best Fitness Coaching Apps in 2026, Compared
Here’s how the main options stack up. Prices are each company’s published monthly rate (no annual discount), checked on November 3, 2026. Pricing pages change, so always check before you buy.
| App | Best for | Starting price (monthly) | Around 15 clients | Around 50 clients | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TurnKey Coach | Strength coaches building a real coaching business | Essential: $8 per client | Pro 15: $99 | Pro 50: $299 | Screen-recorded video feedback, automatic PR tracking, no platform fee on client payments (Stripe’s normal fee only) |
| ABC Trainerize | Personal trainers and gyms who want a big, polished ecosystem | Free for 1 client; Grow $10 (2 clients) | Pro 15: $50 | Pro 50: $135 | Payments, video coaching, and advanced nutrition are paid add-ons on Grow and Pro |
| TrueCoach | Coaches who want simple, clean programming | Starter $29.98 (5 clients) | Standard $69.98 (up to 20) | Pro $164.98 | Payments included, “no extra fees”; wearables, Zapier, and a branded app from Standard |
| Everfit | Budget-conscious coaches, hybrid training plus nutrition | Free for 5 clients | Pro $49 (20 clients) | Pro $95 | Autoflow automation, payments, and meal plans are add-ons |
| TrainHeroic | S&C coaches and team programming | $9.99 (1 athlete) | $34.99 (up to 15) | $74.99 | Assistant coaches $9.99/mo each; built-in program marketplace |
| Kahunas | Nutrition-heavy coaches who want lots of features per dollar | $5 per seat (3–24 seats) | $62.50 (billed as 25 seats) | $100 | Team members take seats; some features unlock at higher seat tiers |
| Exercise.com | Gyms and multi-location facilities | Quote only | Not published | Not published | Fully branded apps; sales call required |
A few honest takeaways from that table:
- If price is the only thing that matters, TurnKey Coach is not the cheapest option. TrainHeroic, Everfit, Trainerize, and Kahunas all cost less at 15 and 50 clients on their base plans.
- Base price isn’t the whole bill. On Trainerize, taking payments means the Business add-on ($25/mo) plus Stripe Integrated Payments ($10/mo). Everfit sells payments ($9/mo), Autoflow automation (from $29/mo), and meal plans ($39/mo) separately. Add up the extras you’ll actually use before you compare.
- Free plans are real but small. Trainerize (1 client) and Everfit (5 clients) are great for testing or a tiny side roster.
A Closer Look at Each App
ABC Trainerize
Trainerize is the biggest name in the category, and it earned that. It has a polished client app, a free plan, meal and macro tracking, challenges, wearable integrations, and a branded app option ($169 one-time on Pro). If you run a studio or gym and want appointments, classes, and a large ecosystem of integrations, it’s a strong pick.
The catch is that the bill grows as you add what a coaching business needs. Payments, video coaching, and advanced nutrition are all add-ons on Grow and Pro.
TrueCoach
TrueCoach is built around a fast, clean workout builder, a large exercise video library, and simple messaging. Payments are included, it says there are no extra fees, and wearables, Zapier automations, and a custom-branded app come in on the Standard plan. Coaches who want a straightforward tool and don’t need much beyond programming tend to like it. It gets pricier per client than most once you pass 20 clients.
Everfit
Everfit gives you a lot for the money, starting with a forever-free plan for 5 clients and low per-client pricing as you grow. It’s strong on habits, forms, nutrition, and on-demand content. The trade-off is that automation (Autoflow), payments, and meal plans are add-ons, so the bill builds as your business does.
TrainHeroic
TrainHeroic is a favorite in the strength and conditioning world, and for good reason. It’s excellent for team and group programming, and its marketplace lets you sell programs to athletes who train on their own. If you mostly write team programming for a gym, a school, or a sport, it’s hard to beat on price. It’s less focused on high-touch, one-on-one online coaching and the business tools around it.
Kahunas
Kahunas uses simple per-seat pricing that gets cheaper per seat as you grow, and it takes no commission on sales through your own Stripe or PayPal. It packs in a lot for nutrition-focused coaches, including AI insights and lab analysis. Keep in mind that team members take seats too, and some features only unlock at higher seat tiers.
Exercise.com
Exercise.com is an all-in-one platform for gyms and multi-location businesses, with fully branded apps, scheduling, and staff management. Pricing is quote-only, so you’ll need a sales call. It’s usually more than a solo online coach needs.
TurnKey Coach
TurnKey Coach was built by strength coaches for coaches who want to run a real business, not just send workouts. Here’s what it does differently:
- Feedback that feels like being there. Record your screen and camera at the same time, draw on the client’s video, or leave a voice memo that’s automatically transcribed. Clients see their training from your perspective. (See how review and feedback works.)
- A smart review feed. One feed shows what needs you today: workouts to review, missed sessions, clients waiting on programming.
- Strength programming done right. RPE, RIR, AMRAP, time and distance formats, training blocks, and automatic PR tracking for every exercise and set/rep combination.
- Payments without a platform cut. Sell coaching plans, run trials and promo codes, and bill clients automatically. TurnKey Coach takes no platform fee on client payments; you pay only Stripe’s normal processing fee.
- Pricing that rewards growth. Essential is $8 per client per month with one coach included. Pro is a flat monthly price with clients included: $99 for 15, $159 for 25, $299 for 50, and $499 for 100, and paying yearly gets you two months free. Pro adds nutrition-app and wearable integrations, group programming, Zapier, a business dashboard, a white-label web app, and MCP and API access so you can connect your own AI tools. Going over your tier never locks you out; each extra client is $8. Extra coaches are $29 a month. Questions about how plans count clients? Our team can help.
Quick math: 15 clients on Essential is $120 a month. Pro 15 is $99. Once you have 13 or more clients, Pro is the better deal. You can see every plan side by side on our pricing page.
Where TurnKey Coach isn’t the best fit: if you’re just starting with a handful of clients and want the lowest possible price, a free plan elsewhere will cost you less. If you mainly program for teams or sell off-the-shelf programs at volume, TrainHeroic is built for that. And if you run a big-box gym that needs class booking and check-ins, look at Trainerize’s Studio plans or Exercise.com. One more for hybrid gyms: if your in-person sessions are booked through Acuity Scheduling, our Acuity integration is only on Enterprise, so factor that in.
Who TurnKey Coach Is Best For
We built TurnKey Coach with a particular coach in mind. You might recognize them.
They own a small barbell gym, or rent space in one. They coach in person and online, and there’s a second coach on the team, maybe a third. Some of their lifters compete. Others just want to get strong and stay that way. And they got into this because they love coaching, not because they love invoices. (If that’s you, our piece on hybrid coaching for gym owners is worth a read too.)
Here’s a Sunday night for that coach without the right software. Fifteen form checks are waiting, spread across Instagram DMs, texts, and a shared Drive folder. Each one gets a typed reply the client will skim on their phone. Then there’s the PR spreadsheet to update, two payments to chase, and a new client’s waiver still sitting in an email thread.
Here’s the same night in TurnKey Coach. The videos are already in the review feed, attached to the workouts they came from. You open one, record your screen and your camera together, draw on the bar path, and talk the client through what you see, the way you would on the gym floor. The quick ones get a voice memo, which is transcribed for the client automatically. The PRs logged themselves. Billing ran on its own.
If you love to coach, TurnKey Coach takes the rest off your plate:
- Billing: coaching plans, automatic billing, and payment reminders, so you’re not the debt collector.
- Onboarding: a custom questionnaire and waiver signing, done before the first session.
- Programming: templates, training blocks, and copy-and-paste weeks, so you’re not starting from scratch every time.
- Progress: PRs tracked automatically for every exercise and set/rep combination.
- Your day: one review feed, plus a daily email summarizing what needs you.
- Your team: assign and reassign clients, cover for a coach who’s out, and give a trusted coach admin access. (See how coaching teams work.)
If video is how you coach, TurnKey Coach is built around video feedback. Clients upload their form-check videos straight into the app, and video feedback is included on every plan. (On Trainerize, video coaching is a $10/month add-on.) We’ve also rebuilt our video player with faster streaming, downloads, and seekbar previews, so scrubbing to the sticking point takes a second, not a minute.
So Which Fitness Coaching App Should You Choose?
- Just starting, under 5 clients: start free on Trainerize or Everfit and learn what you actually need.
- Team and group S&C programming: TrainHeroic.
- Gyms and studios with classes and front-desk needs: Trainerize Studio or Exercise.com.
- Nutrition-first coaching on a budget: Everfit or Kahunas.
- Strength coaches with 10+ clients who want to grow a high-touch business: TurnKey Coach, especially if you run a small team, coach in person and online, and do most of your coaching through video feedback.
Whatever you pick, use the free trial the right way. Move three real clients in. Program a real week. Give feedback on a real lift. Run one real payment. A week of actual use will tell you more than any comparison article, including this one. And once the software is sorted, the next job is filling the roster; here’s our playbook for getting online personal training clients.
FAQ
What is the best fitness coaching app?
There isn’t one best app for everyone. TrainHeroic is a favorite for team strength and conditioning, Trainerize and Everfit offer free plans and big feature sets, and TurnKey Coach is built for strength coaches with 10 or more clients who want high-touch feedback and a real business behind it. Pick based on how you coach and where you want your business to be in a year.
How much does a fitness coaching app cost?
As of November 2026, most published plans run from free (Trainerize for 1 client, Everfit for 5) to roughly $35–$165 a month for 15–50 clients, before add-ons. Exercise.com is quote-only. TurnKey Coach starts at $8 per client per month, or $99 a month for 15 clients on Pro.
Do my clients have to pay to use the app?
Usually not. Trainerize and TrueCoach both say their apps are free for clients, and on TurnKey Coach the coach pays for the plan, not the client. You set what you charge for coaching.
Which fitness coaching app is best for strength coaches?
Look for RPE/RIR programming, easy progression, PR tracking, and strong video feedback. TrainHeroic is excellent for team programming. TurnKey Coach is built for one-on-one and small-group strength coaching, with screen-recorded video feedback and automatic PR tracking.
Which fitness coaching app is best for video feedback?
Look for an app where clients upload videos straight to the workout and you can answer with more than a typed comment. TurnKey Coach is built around video feedback: you record your screen and camera together, draw on the lift, or leave a voice memo that’s transcribed automatically, and it’s included on every plan. On Trainerize, video coaching is a $10/month add-on. Whichever app you try, review a real client lift during the trial.
Is Trainerize or Everfit better?
Both have free plans and broad feature sets. Everfit is usually cheaper per client as you grow; Trainerize has a larger ecosystem and more gym-focused features. Check which add-ons you’d need on each, because that’s where the real cost difference shows up.
Can I switch coaching apps without losing clients?
Yes, if you plan it. Move a few clients first, rebuild their current block, and tell everyone exactly when and how the switch happens. Most coaches who switch do it at the start of a new training block.

What our
coaches say

Coaching, Finally in One Place
TurnKey is the first platform that lets me program, analyze video, communicate, and manage payments all in one place. The in-app video analysis alone has made my coaching faster, clearer, and more effective. It’s a true one-stop shop for remote coaching.

Premium Coaching Without the Chaos
TurnKey replaced my mess of spreadsheets and texts with a streamlined system that lets me scale without losing personalization. The screen-recorded feedback dramatically increased perceived value—clients even offered to pay more.

Clarity at Every Level
Switching platforms felt risky, but the efficiency gains were immediate. The Connect page keeps urgent items front and center, making it easy to manage clients, questions, and coaches without anything slipping through the cracks. TurnKey frees up time and mental bandwidth so I can focus on coaching and developing my team.

I Kept Clients I Would’ve Lost
TurnKey allowed me to keep coaching in-person clients even after they moved away. Instead of losing them, I transitioned them online and kept the relationship. That income is now almost paying my mortgage.

Real Connection—At Scale
My clients feel like they talk to me every week because of the videos I send. TurnKey was the first platform that allowed me to preserve real connection while scaling my business. It’s become a fulfillment cornerstone.

More Coaching. Less Admin.
TurnKey allows me to coach clients online in a fraction of the time without sacrificing quality. It removed the admin burden and let me build a sustainable business focused on clients—not software.
